If I Could Only Fly

IF I COULD ONLY FLY

If I could only fly

I’d pick my way

amongst the clouds

and soar above the icy mass

down valleys and above the hills

and relish every blessed hour

of freedom unknown to my kind.

If I could only fly.

I’d glide above the snowy crests

above the icy barren seas

and gaze in awe upon the land

that tightly bound me once below

locked on a frozen spit of ground

the rocky nests and cold terrain

my freedom but a dream.

If I could only fly.
